Thrybergh Parish Council Meetings 2026 – 2027

Meetings are all held in Thrybergh Parish Hall on Park Lane in Thrybergh.

Members of the public are welcome to attend all meetings.

Noted: All meetings of the Parish Council shall be held on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30pm, unless otherwise resolved by the Council. No ordinary meeting shall be held in August.

The Parish Council is aware of how much residents enjoy seeing the colourful hanging baskets displayed throughout Thrybergh during the summer months.

Unfortunately, following changes introduced by RMBC last year which meant that hanging baskets could no longer be attached to concrete lamp posts, combined with the further recent RMBC requirement for independent safety testing of metal lamp posts, it has not been possible for the necessary arrangements to be made for the installation of hanging baskets this year.

The timing of this change has created challenges for Thrybergh Parish Council in arranging the necessary testing and identifying sufficient potential locations in time for the planting season. The cost of this testing, whilst offset by a contribution from RMBC, still represents a significant expense for the Parish Council, particularly with the likelihood that some lamp posts tested may not meet the required criteria and therefore may not be suitable for hanging baskets. These concerns have been raised with RMBC by parish councils and ward councillors.

We appreciate residents’ patience and understanding and share the disappointment that the hanging baskets will not be displayed in Thrybergh this year. We hope to be able to make suitable arrangements for future years.

Remembrance Sunday Service 9 November 2025

Thank you to all those who attended the Thrybergh Remembrance Service at the Parish Hall and Cenotaph on Sunday. Special thanks to Revd John Hibberd for leading the service in his usual inspirational fashion.

It is vitally important that we gather as a community to remember those who gave everything in service of their country.
We Will Remember Them.

The parish hall will be open afterwards for light refreshments.

All are most welcome.

An audience of 50 enthusiastic and patriotic locals turned out to help commemorate the VE Day 85 anniversary event held at Thrybergh Parish Hall.

Miss Trixie Holiday was superb as she sang a variety of well known songs from the era which had the audience singing along with and many even got up to dance making it a truly special evening and was greatly enjoyed by all.

Dick Whittington Pantomime

It's that time of the year when thoughts turn to pantomime.

This year's pantomime, sponsored by the parish council, will be Dick Whittington and will take place on Saturday 13th December at Thrybergh Parish Hall with doors opening at 1pm and the show will start at 1:30pm. Tickets are £2 for adults and children are free. Refreshments will be provided.

The pantomime is provided by Thrybergh parish council for Thrybergh residents.

Do you love to read?

Do you have any spare, unwanted or unloved books?

If yes, why not donate them to our upcoming book library so that they can find a new lease of life.

Please bring any unwanted books along to the parish hall and simply leave them in the reception.

We will put them in a bookcase and they will be made available to everyone.

All we ask is that you either return the book when finished or replace it with another unwanted book so that the book stock is continually replenished.

A Parish Council is a tier of local government closest to the people. Parish Councils are generally elected by local people to represent local interests and provide local services. The Parish Council represents and serves the whole of its local community. Each Parish Council is made up of individual councillors who contribute to the work of the council by:

• Suggesting ideas
• Responding to the needs and views of the community
• Representing their constituents
• Commenting on proposals such as planning applications

The Parish Council works in partnership with Rotherham Borough Council and other local bodies such as South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive.

The Borough Council has many legal duties to deliver services such as education housing, planning and social services. Whilst the Parish Council has a more limited range of duties and powers it plays a vital part in representing your local interests and concerns.

Your parish council is made up of a number of councillors who meet regularly to make decisions on the work and direction of the council. These meetings provide time for local residents to raise matters of concern or ask questions relating to local issues.

As elected bodies parish councils are responsible to the people they represent – that’s your local community. Attending a council meeting is the best way to find out what we do.

Each year a sum of money called a ‘precept’ is collected through your council tax. This money is used by your parish council to improve facilities and services for local people. The Parish council can also apply for grants, loans and receives money from rents and leases.
